Four cylinders stand in a single row across the frame and share one crankshaft. That’s the inline-four, and it does three things well: it revs freely, it runs smoothly and it saves its strongest pull for high engine speeds. The price is width. It’s wider than a twin. V-fours, boxers, triples and twins don’t count, so every bike here carries four cylinders in a row.

When one of these bikes catches your eye, pin down the exact generation and model year of the one you’re looking at. From BMW and Honda to Bimota and Benda, a model’s spec can shift from one generation to the next. Match the machine in front of you to the right entry before you judge it.

Every motorcycle below has inline-four engines from the factory, confirmed against manufacturer information. Where a trim or special edition shares it with the base bike, only the base bike is listed. A model that is missing here may still have it; it means we have not confirmed it yet.
