CB1000GT (MY2026)

4.5 / 5 NastyNils Rating · against its class

Hornet Grows Up Fast

The Machine's Character

The CB1000GT takes the inline-four from Honda's CB1000 Hornet and points it at distance. 150 hp and 75 lb-ft from 1000 cc is a lot of engine for a 505 lb sport-tourer, and the delivery is shaped for road use rather than for a dyno printout. What lifts it clear of the usual class arithmetic is the hardware that comes with it: Showa semi-active damping reading the road through a six-axis IMU, cornering ABS, traction control, ride modes, a quickshifter that works up and down, cruise control, heated grips, a color TFT with navigation and phone connectivity, keyless ignition, center stand and luggage. All standard.

On the road it behaves like something built by people who actually ride. It stays neutral, it never argues with a change of pace, and it will run 300 mile days without grinding you down. The 5.5 gal tank gives it honest range, and the equipment list means you are not immediately shopping for the parts that should have been there in the first place. This is the bike for a rider who wants full sport-touring capability without committing to a bagger. The honest caveat: this engine family has a documented appetite for oil, and Honda has acknowledged it and is still working on a remedy.

Known issues

  • Excessive engine oil consumption (inherited from Hornet platform)

    engine common

Multiple owners on forums and testers report that the engine consumes an abnormal amount of oil, sometimes requiring top-ups between services. Honda has acknowledged the issue and is developing a remedy, potentially including engine rebuilds or replacements. The CB1000GT/F launches have been delayed while a fix is finalized.

The Long-Haul Verdict

Forget spec-sheet bragging. Here's who the CB1000GT is actually built for.

Aerial view of a winding asphalt road cutting through volcanic terrain on La Gomera, Canary Islands. The road curves through sparse green vegetation with rocky volcanic peaks visible in the background and a settled valley to the left. Clear lane markings, dry climate, partly cloudy sky.

Best motorcycle for Highway 1?

This is your bike, straight up. Real range from the 5.5 gal tank, suspension that stays settled solo or loaded, and enough engine to make a 300 mile day on the Blue Ridge feel short.

Made for Black Hills · Blue Ridge Parkway · Cherohala Skyway

Best motorcycle for Tail of the Dragon?

Heavier than what you usually see at the Dragon, but the chassis is honest and lean clearance is generous. You will run out of nerve well before it runs out of ground.

Made for Back of the Dragon · Blue Ridge Parkway · Cherohala Skyway

Best motorcycle for Angeles Crest?

Canyon pace sits comfortably inside its range, and the damping keeps it planted over broken pavement on Angeles Crest. Just go in knowing you are riding a tourer, not a stripped street weapon.
