Displacement is the combined swept volume of all the cylinders, and it’s the number riders use to sort motorcycles into size classes. Every bike here sits in the same class from the factory. That’s only a starting point: power, weight and character still differ widely with the number of cylinders, the state of tune and the type of bike.

A bike makes the list on its confirmed displacement, not the number in its model name. When one catches your eye, pin down the exact generation and model year of the bike in front of you. Then check how many cylinders it runs, how it’s tuned and what type of bike it is, because that’s where power, weight and character part ways.

Every motorcycle below has an engine of 230 to 260cc from the factory, confirmed against manufacturer information. Where a trim or special edition shares it with the base bike, only the base bike is listed. A model that is missing here may still have it; it means we have not confirmed it yet.
