FC 250 (MY2023)

The Rev-Hungry Track Scalpel

The Machine's Character

The FC 250 is Husqvarna's 250 cc four-stroke motocrosser, and it is built for one job: going fast on a closed course. The 47 hp single makes its best work high in the rev range. Around it, Husqvarna fits a standard electronics package of traction control, selectable ride modes and launch control, plus an up-only quickshifter. That lets you reshape the power delivery for a slick, hard-packed morning track or a rutted, blown-out afternoon one. The chassis is a steel double-cradle frame carrying a WP XACT air fork and a linkage rear shock. Both ends are fully adjustable, so this is a machine you tune to your track and your pace.

Out on the dirt the FC 250 feels light and sharp in the turns, but it stays calm when you're flat out down a straight. The suspension stays consistent through deep braking bumps and heavy landings, and the whole package is tough enough to take a season of punishment. There is a deep aftermarket if you want to build it further. It suits the racer or the serious hobby rider who rides actively and keeps the engine spinning. The honest caveat: it asks for effort. If you ride it lazily and short-shift everything, it gives little back, and a few small design choices around the shock adjusters will annoy you in the pits.

Known issues

  • Blocked direct access to rear shock compression adjuster

    bodywork common

A section of bodywork fitted across the top of the rear shock obstructs direct access to the compression adjuster.

  • Exposed low-mounted plastic rebound adjuster vulnerable to roost damage

    suspension occasional

The hand-adjustable plastic rebound adjuster is positioned low to the ground in the direct path of rocks and roost, leaving it vulnerable to potential damage.

  • White plastic guards susceptible to knee brace scuffing

    bodywork common

The white plastic guards easily scuff from contact with knee braces.

Alternatives to the Husqvarna FC 250

If this one isn't quite the fit, these are the bikes worth riding back-to-back against it.

Any price note compares both bikes at the same age — the youngest age both have on the used market — against this Husqvarna FC 250. “cheaper/pricier” is what that bike costs second-hand, not how worn it is.
