X-ADV (RC 21)

The Urban Adventurer That Delivers

The Machine's Character

The X-ADV is Honda proving it can do crazy and get away with it. Take a maxi-scooter, give it an SUV stance, an upside-down fork, a steel trellis frame and a 745 cc parallel twin, then add a DCT that does the shifting for you. On paper that's a contradiction. On the road it's one of the most complete packages in the scooter world: 59 hp, 51 lb-ft, chain final drive and a 17-inch front wheel like a real motorcycle. ABS, traction control and ride modes are standard, and so are a TFT display, a keyless system and navigation. Nothing else looks like it.

It rides like a motorcycle that happens to be convenient. The twin pulls hardest in the mid-range, right where you live in traffic, and the chassis makes 520 lb (236 kg) feel surprisingly agile once you're rolling. Honda reliability and 65 mpg keep the long-term bill low, so this is a bike you buy once and keep. It's for you if you want one machine for the weekday commute and the Sunday back road. The honest caveat: the tall stance and knobby-look tires promise more adventure than the bike delivers. This is an urban machine. A very good one!

A mix of glass-and-steel skyscrapers and mid-rise residential towers fills the frame. A construction crane is active on the left.
