Two-Stroke Injection Done Right

The Machine's Character

The TE 300i is Husqvarna's two-stroke enduro done the modern way. At its core is a liquid-cooled 293 cc single with electronic fuel injection, hung in a steel tube frame. The injection is the big deal here: you don't swap jets when you climb from the desert floor into the high country, because the system manages the mixture across altitude and conditions. Adjustable suspension comes standard at both ends. A 6-speed gearbox rounds out the package. You get the light, simple nature of a two-stroke without the jetting chore of a carbureted one. It's style with substance!

On paper, this hardware is built for technical terrain. With 11.8 in (300 mm) of travel up front, 13.0 in (330 mm) at the rear and 14.0 in (355 mm) of ground clearance, it's set up for rock ledges, sandy washes and steep climbs. The 90/90-21 front and 140/80-18 rear are proper enduro sizes. The light build and strong low-end pull point to a rider who measures progress in feet per minute, not miles per hour. The 37.8 in (960 mm) seat and 2.5 gal (9.5 L) tank tell the same story: this is for experienced riders on hard day loops. A pure dirt tool.

Known issues

  • Oil pump failure leading to engine seizure

    engine rare

Rare cases of oil pump failure have been reported, which can starve the engine of lubrication and cause a seizure. This is often associated with the use of incorrect oil type or contamination, but some early pump units may be defective.

  • Early production plastic oil tank cracking

    bodywork occasional

On some 2018 models, the plastic oil tank is prone to cracking and leaking, which can lead to oil loss and potential engine damage. A revised tank design and improved mounting were introduced later.

  • Cold start idle instability

    engine occasional

Owners reported that the engine struggles to hold a steady idle for the first 30 seconds after a cold start, sometimes requiring throttle input to prevent stalling. This behavior typically smoothed out once fully warm.

  • Early ECU mapping issues causing poor running

    electrics occasional

Initially delivered motorcycles suffered from inconsistent low-speed running and stalling due to suboptimal fuel/ignition maps. A later ECU flash from the dealer improved the situation.

The 'Should I Buy It?' Score

Forget spec-sheet bragging. Here's who the TE 300i is actually built for.

Factory Butte in Utah's high desert badlands, captured in daylight under clear blue sky. The formation's distinctive multi-colored strata and steep erosional gullies dominate the frame. Arid terrain with minimal vegetation stretches across the foreground and background. Typical American Southwest landscape.

Best motorcycle for Moab?

This is your best fit: a light 293 cc two-stroke with strong low-end pull, 14.0 in (355 mm) of ground clearance and adjustable suspension, built for exactly the slickrock ledges and sand you ride.

Made for Moab · Bar M / Kane Creek · Imperial Sand Dunes

Best motocross bike for Loretta Lynns?

A strong match if your riding is mostly closed-course: long travel and adjustable suspension give you plenty to tune. Just know it's an enduro first, built for trails as much as the track.

Made for Loretta Lynn's Ranch · Carnegie State Vehicular Recreation Area · Fox Raceway at Pala

Best motorcycle for BDR routes?

A partial fit. The hardware has the rough BDR sections covered, but a 2.5 gal (9.5 L) tank and 37.8 in (960 mm) seat make it a day-loop tool, not a multi-day pack mule.

Made for AZBDR — Arizona Backcountry Discovery Route · California BDR South · COBDR — Colorado Backcountry Discovery Route
