300 EXC TPI Erzberg Edition (MY2020)

4.5 / 5 NastyNils Rating · against its class

Erzberg DNA, Street Legal

The Machine's Character

The Erzberg Edition is a hard enduro build, not a trim package. It sits on KTM's TPI two-stroke platform, a 293 cc liquid-cooled single rated at 59 hp and 37 lb-ft, with injection handling the fuel so there is no premix ritual before a ride. Ride modes let you pick the character you want before you drop into a rock section. WP suspension is fully adjustable at both ends, 11.8 in of travel up front and 12.2 in at the rear, and the bike leaves the crate with billet triple clamps, a skid plate and brake disc guards. This is the sharp end of the class.

On the ground it behaves like a specialist, because that is what it is. The chassis is light and honest, ground clearance is 14.0 in, and the tires are proper off-road sizes at 80/100-21 and 110/100-18, so ruts and rock steps stop being obstacles and start being lines. It ages the way race machinery ages: hard use, regular attention, parts you can reach and replace without a fight. Who it suits is narrow and clear, namely riders who spend real time in technical terrain. The honest caveat is the 2.4 gal tank and the 37.8 in seat, and both set hard limits.

The 'Should I Buy It?' Score

Forget spec-sheet bragging. Here's who the 300 EXC TPI Erzberg Edition is actually built for.

Factory Butte in Utah's high desert badlands, captured in daylight under clear blue sky. The formation's distinctive multi-colored strata and steep erosional gullies dominate the frame. Arid terrain with minimal vegetation stretches across the foreground and background. Typical American Southwest landscape.

Best motorcycle for Moab?

This is your bike. Slickrock ledges, sand and tight technical lines are exactly what it was built for, and the suspension range lets you set it up properly for a full day of it.

Made for Bar M / Kane Creek · Imperial Sand Dunes · Johnson Valley OHV Area

Best motocross bike for Loretta Lynns?

It will run a club track happily, but the tuning is enduro: traction and drive out of rough ground rather than holeshots and jump faces. Strong for training, second choice on race day.

Made for Carnegie State Vehicular Recreation Area · Fox Raceway at Pala · Glen Helen Raceway

Best motorcycle for BDR routes?

Be honest with yourself here. The 2.4 gal tank and race ergonomics make multi-day route work punishing. Use this for the hardest sections of a route, not the miles between them.

Made for AZBDR — Arizona Backcountry Discovery Route · California BDR South · COBDR — Colorado Backcountry Discovery Route
