Ducati 1199 Panigale (H8) vs MV Agusta F4 1000 (MY2010-RR)

Ducati 1199 Panigale vs MV Agusta F4 1000: which one to buy for the riding you do.

Off the brakes at a corner's entry, the Ducati 1199 Panigale's nose snaps toward the apex and doesn't wander once it's there. The MV Agusta F4 1000 carries more heft as it tips into the arc. Once it's leaned over, its line won't budge.

Which one's the smarter buy

Money won't decide it

The F4 1000 costs less, but that doesn't make it the better buy. Neither is the clear winner on value alone. Your choice depends on what you want the bike to do.

What makes each one tick

1199 Panigale

The Panigale's L-twin wakes up high in the revs and doesn't let go until redline, with the exhaust barking from beneath the seat. In traffic, that heat's cooking you. Through a quick left-right flick, the compact monocoque swaps sides in a blink, and a mid-corner bump doesn't knock the chassis off its arc. Its front end goes where you're pointing it.

Nils rode the 1199 Panigale in 2013 (NastyNils Testride).

F4 1000

The F4's quad outlets sing, and the howl doesn't stop climbing with the revs. The throttle's real answer comes high, where the four's pulling hardest as the needle swings toward 13,400 rpm. At 470 lb (213 kg), the bike won't hustle without real muscle. Its high pegs and low bars fold a tall rider up tight. The taut chassis keeps talking.

Comfortable long-distance riding

Neither is a natural fit

Long-haul comfort is a weak spot for both. If you tour, shop with that in mind.

They come out level on twisty roads and running costs. The better-kept used example is the smarter money.
