So which one do you buy?

The GSX-R 1000 has the edge if…

Sporty riding on twisty roads

A touch ahead: GSX-R 1000

Once the road starts to bend, the GSX-R 1000 noses ahead. What tips it: lighter steering and stronger brakes. Your own skill counts for more than a gap this size.

Daily commuting & city riding

Inches ahead: GSX-R 1000

Day in, day out, the GSX-R 1000 nudges ahead in traffic. It isn't a big enough gap to plan around.

Racetrack use

Nose ahead: GSX-R 1000

The GSX-R 1000 pulls a nose ahead on track. Thank more feel through the bars and a sportier chassis for that. Don't count on it doing the work for you.

What makes each one tick

Ninja ZX-10R

There's no softness anywhere in the Ninja ZX-10R: its inline-four revs hard and hits harder still up top. Its twistgrip hits like a switch. Corner entry belongs to the compact aluminum frame, and it's quick to tip the bike in with middleweight agility. The Ninja ZX-10R carries big speed through the apex.

Nils rode the Ninja ZX-10R in 2004 (NastyNils Testride).

GSX-R 1000

Around town the GSX-R 1000 purrs on a creamy bottom end, but higher up there's an airbox howl over the whir of its gear-driven counterbalancer. A mid-corner bump doesn't faze it. The twin-spar frame flicks it side to side and doesn't wander. Its bars and pegs leave a tall rider room.

Comfortable long-distance riding

Wrong job for both

Long days aren't what these two do best. Plan shorter legs and plenty of stops.

Nothing splits them on running costs. Ride both back to back and the decision usually makes itself.
