Chrome, Torque, Last Hurrah
This is the last of the air-cooled classic touring Harleys, and it wears the part honestly. The 1584 cc 45-degree V-twin makes 73 hp and 95 lb-ft at 3,500 rpm, fed by fuel injection and geared through a six-speed box onto a belt. Wire-spoke wheels, deep chrome, and 16-inch rubber at both ends give it the vintage American silhouette, while cruise control comes standard for the miles it was actually built to cover. A 63.5 in wheelbase and 761 lb wet set the tone: this bike wants open road, not shortcuts.
It ages the way simple machinery ages, which is mostly well, provided the owner stayed on top of the mechanical items this platform is known for. High-speed stability is a genuine strength, build quality holds up, and the 29.5 in seat makes it approachable for riders who have been talked out of big tourers before. It suits the rider who values presence, sound, and unhurried progress. The honest caveat: the front fork has no adjustment at all, only the rear shock takes preload, and ABS was an option rather than standard, so plenty of these bikes don't have it.
Spec sheets don't ride bikes, but they set the baseline.

ABS brake fluid degradation (2008 model only)
NHTSA recall 18V-076: brake fluid may degrade and cause loss of ABS function. Affects 2008 Road King Classic models with ABS; remedy: free fluid flush using new H-D Platinum brake fluid.
Excessive crankshaft runout
A number of 2007 models suffered from poor crankshaft runout leading to heavy vibration and potential engine damage. Many were repaired under warranty with welded cranks.
Primary chain tensioner and compensating sprocket failure
The automatic primary chain tensioner and compensating sprocket are prone to wear, causing loud clunks on startup/acceleration and eventual primary damage. Upgrades are recommended.
5th gear whine
Due to straight-cut gears in 1st and 5th, the transmission emits a pronounced whine in 5th gear. Using heavier gear oil or adding the IDS system helps, but the noise remains characteristic.

Forget spec-sheet bragging. Here's who the Road King Classic FLHRC is actually built for.
If Sturgis and Daytona are fixed points in your year, this bike speaks your language: the right sound, the right chrome, and the parts catalog to make it yours. It fits, straight up.
Made for Florida State Road A1A · Black Hills · Main Street, Daytona Beach
It will hold an interstate line all day and pull two-up without complaint. Just know the fixed fork and 5.0 gal tank set your rhythm, and no electronic rider aids are backing you up.
Made for Beartooth Highway · Blue Ridge Parkway · Going-to-the-Sun Road
For 200 to 400 mile days on sweeping roads, it works. On tighter, faster stuff the 761 lb and long wheelbase ask you to slow your pace and enjoy the view instead.
Made for Black Hills · Blue Ridge Parkway · Cherohala Skyway
If this one isn't quite the fit, these are the bikes worth riding back-to-back against it.
