701 Supermoto (MY2026)

4 / 5 NastyNils Rating · against its class

Sharp Handling, Single-Cylinder Soul

The Machine's Character

The 701 Supermoto is a 693 cc liquid-cooled single making 79 hp and 54 lb-ft, hung in a steel trellis frame and rolling on 17-inch street rubber, 120/70 front and 160/60 rear. Suspension is adjustable at both ends, ground clearance is a huge 9.3 in (237 mm), and the geometry is set up to be leaned over further than most riders will ever ask for. What keeps it civil on public roads is the electronics: cornering ABS, traction control and selectable ride modes, plus a TFT dash with navigation and phone pairing. The LC4 engine underneath is the same platform the Enduro version in the family uses.

On the road it behaves like a dirt bike that learned manners. Light, tall, quick to change direction, happy to be ridden hard on a tight backroad and just as happy threading through city traffic. It is a rider's bike in the honest sense: aftermarket support runs deep, and owners tend to keep changing things for years. The caveats are the obvious ones. The seat sits at 35.4 in (899 mm), which rules out plenty of people at the first stop sign, and the 3.4 gal (13 L) tank keeps range short. Chain drive means real maintenance. Buy it for the roads you love, not the miles between them.

The Voice of Experience

Portrait of NastyNils

The test ride

You sit on this thing rather than in it. The seat is tall, narrow and flat, the bars are wide, and your first thirty seconds are spent working out where your feet go at a stop. Once you are moving, the big single sends a low pulse up through the pegs and the tank that never fully disappears and never becomes annoying either. At an easy 50 mph on a back road it feels loose-limbed and awake, the front end talking constantly into your palms. The riding position is roomy, knees open, the slim tank letting you slide around without thinking about it. Sound is a big part of the experience: a hard mechanical note under the seat that turns every underpass into an event. On the freeway, sitting bolt upright with nothing ahead of you, you notice the wind and start looking for the exit ramp.

Best motorcycle for Angeles Crest?

This is your canyon bike, and it will flatter your line through every switchback up the Crest. Just know the 3.4 gal (13 L) tank makes the freeway leg out of LA something you plan around.

Best motorcycle for Bay Area?

Commute through the week, run the ridge roads on Sunday: it does both, and it looks the part parked at Alice's. The 35.4 in (899 mm) seat is the deciding factor, so throw a leg over one first.

Best motorcycle for Tail of the Dragon?

Tight, repeatable, technical corners are exactly what this bike wants. It rewards precise inputs and never runs short of lean angle. Budget extra fuel stops on the long ride in.

Alternatives to the Husqvarna 701 Supermoto

If this one isn't quite the fit, these are the bikes worth riding back-to-back against it.

Any price note compares both bikes at the same age — the youngest age both have on the used market — against this Husqvarna 701 Supermoto. “cheaper/pricier” is what that bike costs second-hand, not how worn it is.
