Super Scout (MY2025)

Big Sound, Touring Soul

The Machine's Character

The Super Scout is the touring end of the Scout family, and it commits to that job from the ground up. A liquid-cooled 1250 cc 60° V-twin makes 105 hp and 81 lb-ft, fed through a six-speed gearbox and a belt, all of it wrapped in a tubular steel frame that keeps the mass low and the lines long. Saddlebags, a windshield, cruise control and a TFT display with navigation are standard, as are ABS, traction control and ride modes. The 25.6 in (650 mm) seat sits about as low as this class goes.

On the road it behaves like a proper long-distance cruiser: settled at interstate speed, unhurried, happy to hold a pace for hours. The chopper stance and the metalwork are why most people will buy it, and they hold up to a close look, not just a passing glance. It suits the rider who wants American attitude with real mileage attached. The honest caveat is the 3.4 gal (13 L) tank, which puts fuel stops closer together than the touring bodywork suggests, and the front fork is fixed, with only the rear shock taking preload.

The test ride

Swing a leg over and there is barely any swinging involved. The seat is genuinely low, your boots find the road without stretching, and the bars fall into your hands with your shoulders relaxed. Thumb the starter and the V-twin settles into a deep, even idle with just enough shake through the pegs to remind you what you're sitting on. That texture stays with you at road pace, present in the grips and the seat, never coarse enough to leave your hands buzzing after a couple of hours. The windshield pushes the worst of the blast over your helmet, though it sits where it sits and stays there. At 70 mph the bike simply sits wide and steady underneath you, with the exhaust note carrying the mood and the miles going by quietly.

A long, straight paved road stretches toward the horizon through agricultural fields in Vermont. Power lines and a mailbox are visible along the roadside. Lush green vegetation, cumulus clouds, good daylight conditions. The landscape is flat to gently rolling. Asphalt pavement appears to be in good condition. Rural American setting.

The Truth on the Street

Known issues

  • False neutral gear indicator (safety recall)

    electrics very common Recall

The rider display may falsely indicate NEUTRAL when the bike is in gear, risking unintended movement. Indian issued recall I-24-11 (NHTSA 24V-970) to reflash the ECM on all affected Scouts built before December 23, 2024.

  • Starter cable overheating/melting

    electrics rare

In at least one reported incident, the positive starter cable melted after a voltage drop, emitting smoke and stranding the rider. Polaris opened an engineering review; root cause and scope are not yet clear.

The 'Should I Buy It?' Score

Forget spec-sheet bragging. Here's who the Super Scout is actually built for.

Aerial view of a winding asphalt road cutting through volcanic terrain on La Gomera, Canary Islands. The road curves through sparse green vegetation with rocky volcanic peaks visible in the background and a settled valley to the left. Clear lane markings, dry climate, partly cloudy sky.

Best cruiser for Sturgis?

This is your bike for the rally run: right stance, right sound, bags already fitted, and a seat low enough to make the slow parade through town easy. Just budget for closer fuel stops on the way there.

Made for A1A — Florida Atlantic Coast · Black Hills / Sturgis Rally Hub · Daytona Main Street / Bike Week

Best retro motorcycle for road trips?

Small towns and old two-lanes suit it well. It's relaxed enough for a slow rhythm, and the standard bags and windshield mean a long weekend needs no extra hardware bolted on.

Made for Acadia National Park · Austin / Handbuilt Motorcycle Show · Blue Ridge Parkway

Best touring motorcycle for long distance?

It covers big days comfortably and stays steady loaded up, but the 3.4 gal (13 L) tank sets the rhythm of your stops. Two-up and fully packed, plan the map around gas.

Alternatives to the Indian Super Scout

If this one isn't quite the fit, these are the bikes worth riding back-to-back against it.

Any price note compares both bikes at the same age — the youngest age both have on the used market — against this Indian Super Scout. “cheaper/pricier” is what that bike costs second-hand, not how worn it is.
