Softail Low Rider ST (MY2025)

4 / 5 NastyNils Rating · against its class

Hot-Rod Bagger With Outlaw Bones

The Machine's Character

The Low Rider ST is Harley's factory hot rod with luggage. A blacked-out FXRT-style fairing and locking hard bags sit over a narrow-frame Softail chassis, and the 1923 cc Milwaukee-Eight 117 High Output underneath makes 113 hp at 5,000 rpm and 128 lb-ft at 4,000 rpm. Air and oil cooling keep the engine looking like an engine instead of a radiator sandwich. Six speeds, belt final drive, cornering ABS, traction control and switchable ride modes are all standard, which puts it among the few cruisers you can ride hard without wishing the electronics were there.

On the road it behaves like what it is: a long, low 721 lb machine on a 63.6 in wheelbase with a 27.2 in seat, and it settles into a line and stays there. Build quality is the kind you can read from three feet away, and the aftermarket depth means an owner five years in can still shape it into something personal. It fits the rider who wants presence first and still intends to cover states rather than blocks. The honest caveat: the fork carries no adjustment at all, so what the factory chose is what you ride, and the rear shock's preload is the whole of your setup.

A long, straight paved road stretches toward the horizon through agricultural fields in Vermont. Power lines and a mailbox are visible along the roadside. Lush green vegetation, cumulus clouds, good daylight conditions. The landscape is flat to gently rolling. Asphalt pavement appears to be in good condition. Rural American setting.

Known issues

  • Rear brake line may leak due to contact with BCM

    brakes rare Recall

On all 2025-2026 Softail models with narrow frame (including Low Rider ST), insufficient clearance between the rear brake line and Body Control Module can cause the brake line to wear and leak fluid, potentially leading to rear brake failure.

The 'Should I Buy It?' Score

Forget spec-sheet bragging. Here's who the Softail Low Rider ST is actually built for.

Aerial view of a winding asphalt road cutting through volcanic terrain on La Gomera, Canary Islands. The road curves through sparse green vegetation with rocky volcanic peaks visible in the background and a settled valley to the left. Clear lane markings, dry climate, partly cloudy sky.

Best cruiser for Sturgis?

This one is yours without qualification. It has the stance, the sound and the presence the rally crowd reads instantly, plus bags and a fairing that make the ride out there worth doing.

Made for A1A — Florida Atlantic Coast · Black Hills / Sturgis Rally Hub · Daytona Main Street / Bike Week

Best retro motorcycle for road trips?

Right attitude, heavier hand. It suits two-lane routes and slow small-town stops well, but this is a hot rod with luggage, not a light classic you flick around all day.

Made for Acadia National Park · Austin / Handbuilt Motorcycle Show · Blue Ridge Parkway

Best touring motorcycle for long distance?

It will cross the country and the fairing earns its keep, but plan around a 5.0 gal tank, no heated grips and 721 lb before you commit to a two-up park season.

Made for Beartooth Highway · Blue Ridge Parkway · Going-to-the-Sun Road

Any price note compares both bikes at the same age — the youngest age both have on the used market — against this Harley-Davidson Softail Low Rider ST. “cheaper/pricier” is what that bike costs second-hand, not how worn it is.
