Road King Custom FLHRS (MY2007)
The Blank-Canvas Highway Cruiser
The Machine's Character
The Road King Custom takes a heavy touring chassis and pulls the windshield and the long-haul trimmings off it, leaving a low, stretched, West Coast profile that reads boulevard first and highway second. Underneath sits a 1584 cc air-cooled 45° V-twin making 91 lb-ft (123 Nm) at 3,400 rpm, fed through a six-speed gearbox with a tall top gear and a belt to the rear wheel. A steel backbone frame, a 63.5 in (1,613 mm) wheelbase and fat 16-inch rubber anchor the whole thing. Luggage is standard. Nothing about it is subtle.
On the road it behaves like what it is, a big unhurried machine that wants a steady throttle and a long horizon. Torque shows up low, so you spend most of your day on a handful of revs, and the build quality is the kind that takes weather and miles without the finish giving up. It suits a rider who wants presence, sound, and a motorcycle that will still look like theirs after a winter of catalog browsing. The honest catch: no ABS, no traction control, cruise control only as an option rather than standard kit, and a fork with no adjustment at all.
