Differences between the standard Hypermotard V2 and the SP

4.5 / 5 NastyNils Rating · against its class

Italian Hooligan, Surgically Light

The Machine's Character

The Hypermotard V2 SP is a supermoto for the street with its hooligan soul fully intact. Its 890 cc liquid-cooled L-twin makes 120 hp at 10,750 rpm and 69 lb-ft at 8,250 rpm. It pulls cleanly from under 3,000 rpm, so there is punch wherever you pick up the throttle. The engine sits in a monocoque aluminum frame on forged wheels, with fully adjustable suspension at both ends, and the whole bike weighs 390 lb wet. A six-axis IMU runs cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control and ride modes, and the Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) Up/Down comes standard. It looks as modern and characterful as it rides.

Out on the road it is light, direct and happy to change direction, which is exactly what I want from a supermoto. Wheelies, stoppies and late braking come naturally. Yet the suspension takes the sting out of broken pavement, so it doesn't punish you around town. That is modern Ducati for you: lots of intensity, no needless punishment. Build quality is solid and the aftermarket is deep, so it rewards the owner who likes to tinker. It suits an experienced rider who puts fun ahead of range. The caveats are real, though. The 3.3 gal tank is small, and the quickshifter can be touchy under light lever pressure.

Known issues

  • Overly sensitive quickshifter / shifting issues

    drivetrain occasional

The quickshifter can be overly sensitive, with its ignition cut triggering too early under light lever pressure. This can cause missed gears or harsh, inconsistent up and down shifts.
