Guzzi Soul, Modern Spine

The Machine's Character

The V100 Mandello runs a liquid-cooled 1042 cc transverse 90° V-twin, 115 hp and 77 lb-ft, in a steel trellis frame with shaft final drive. On paper that lands it in the middle of the sport-touring field. What separates it is that Guzzi wrapped a compact, genuinely sporting chassis around an engine built to have a voice, instead of building another big soft bagger. The standard equipment backs that up: cornering ABS, traction control, ride modes, cruise control, a TFT dash, cornering lights, a slipper clutch, and a windscreen that raises and lowers electrically while you ride. Electronic suspension, a quickshifter and luggage sit on the options list.

Who it suits is clear enough: the rider who wants 300-mile days on good roads and wants the machine to have a personality while doing them. It works because the modern parts are actually modern, not because you forgive it for being charming. Ownership does ask something back. Certain 2023 bikes were recalled (23V-572) for a rear shock missing one or both bushings, with free inspection and replacement, and the electrical side has proven sensitive to weather.

Known issues

  • Rear shock absorber missing bushings (Recall 23V-572)

    suspension rare Recall

Kayaba rear shock may be missing one or both bushings, causing rigidity and potential breakage. Affects certain 2023 models; recall offers free inspection and replacement.

  • Fueling flat spot

    fuel system occasional

An intermittent flat spot appears in the mid-range, unrelated to ride mode or traction control, causing hesitations during steady throttle.

  • Electrical failures after heavy rain

    electrics rare

Prolonged heavy rain can cause widespread electrical gremlins, potentially stranding the bike.

  • Exhaust collector joint crack

    exhaust occasional

The joint between the catalytic converter box and silencer can fracture at around 4,000–5,000 miles, causing an exhaust leak.

  • Gear selector problems

    drivetrain occasional

Owners report persistent gear selector faults leading to missed shifts or warning lights; often requires dealer intervention.

  • Clutch switch lever fragility

    engine occasional

The metal lever that actuates the clutch safety switch can break, preventing the bike from starting in gear.

Best motorcycle for Highway 1?

This one fits you. It handles Highway 1 or the Blue Ridge at a relaxed pace with the screen up, and it makes the transit miles feel like part of the day. Budget for luggage, since it isn't standard.

Best motorcycle for Tail of the Dragon?

It leans further than you'll ever need and steers honestly, so you can spend a day working on lines. Just remember you're carrying 525 lb through those repeats, and it pays you back for smoothness.

Best motorcycle for Bay Area?

It pulls a crowd at the Sunday stop and still covers the ridge roads and the ride out, with cruise control and a screen you raise on the freeway. Go in knowing the electrics can be temperamental.
