125 GT (MY2006_GT125)

The Steel-Bodied City Specialist

The Machine's Character

The GT 125 is the large-frame Vespa in its small-displacement form: a pressed steel monocoque wrapped around a liquid-cooled, 124 cc single making 15 hp and 8 lb-ft. That's the whole pitch, and it's an honest one. You get the classic shape, a robust steel body and a 309 lb (140 kg) wet weight rolling on 12-inch wheels. Electronics? There aren't any to speak of: no ABS, no traction control, no ride modes. What it does have is a center stand, adjustable rear suspension and storage-friendly bodywork that makes it a real daily tool. In the city it's in its element.

It rides light, turns on a dime and asks nothing of you, which is why it works for beginners and old hands alike. Running costs stay low, and that matters when you use a scooter every single day. The caveat is just as clear: hold it at high revs for long stretches and the GT 125 can run into fuel starvation and vacuum pump failure, which shows up as intermittent power loss. So this is a scooter for short urban distances and people who want style with substance, not for long stretches at full throttle. Know that going in.

Known issues

  • Vacuum pump failure at high revs

    fuel system occasional

The GT 125 can experience fuel starvation and vacuum pump failure during sustained high-rev riding, leading to intermittent power loss.

  • Fuel starvation at sustained high revs

    fuel system occasional

At prolonged high speeds the vacuum-operated fuel pump can fail to supply enough fuel, leading to hesitation or cutting out. This is often due to a failing vacuum line or pump diaphragm.

  • Idle instability when warm

    electrics occasional

Some owners report erratic idle or stalling once the engine reaches operating temperature, often traced to ignition system components such as the stator or pickup coil.

  • Idle stability issues

    engine occasional

Some owners report unstable idle after cold starts, requiring occasional throttle blipping to maintain smooth running.
