DS (Gen4)

Silent Torque, Street-Ready Roots

The Machine's Character

The DS Gen4 is Zero's electric dual-sport, built around an air-cooled Z-Force motor that makes 46 hp and 78 lb-ft. There is no clutch and no gearbox to manage, just a single-speed belt drive and full torque waiting the instant you open the throttle. A light aluminum twin spar frame, upside-down fork, and 19-inch front wheel give it genuine dual-purpose intent. The whole package sits in its class as a quiet, low-maintenance machine that trades the ritual of combustion for immediate, uncomplicated drive.

On the road it rewards a rider who values calm and simplicity over mechanical theater. It ages well because there is little to service beyond tires, brakes, and the belt, and running costs stay low. It fits the city commuter and the weekend explorer who sticks to pavement and gravel. The honest caveat is daily-life practicality: range and charging shape every longer ride, and cold weather trims both range and output. Plan around that and it delivers a genuinely modern kind of riding.

Known issues

  • DC-DC converter insufficient power capacity

    electrics rare Recall

The DC-DC converter may not support simultaneous operation of ABS, lights, and accessories, causing temporary shutdown and loss of ABS; a recall replaced the converter.

  • Range and performance drop in cold weather

    engine common

Owners report that both range and motor output are noticeably reduced when operating in ambient temperatures below approximately 10°C (50°F). This is a characteristic of lithium‑ion batteries.
