Dyna Wide Glide FXDWG (MY2007)

The Factory-Built Chopper

The Machine's Character

The Wide Glide is what happens when the factory builds the chopper for you instead of leaving it to a custom shop. A 1584 cc air-cooled V-twin sits rubber-mounted in the Dyna frame, a skinny 21-inch front wheel hangs off a kicked-out fork, and a 68.3 in (1,735 mm) wheelbase stretches the whole machine into the long, low silhouette the style is built on. Six speeds and a belt let the engine settle into a loping rhythm once you're rolling. Nothing about this bike is chasing subtlety, and that is exactly the point.

On the road it's a big, deliberate machine that rewards a relaxed pace and long sight lines. Highway speed suits it, the long chassis holds its line without fuss, and 53 mpg out of a 5.1 gal (19.3 L) tank means fuel stops come around later than the look suggests. It ages the way simple machines do: belt drive, air cooling, and a parts supply that never dries up. The catch is what it doesn't have. No ABS, no traction control, nothing electronic standing between your right hand and the rear tire, and tight low-speed work is never going to be its strong suit.
