The Factory Bobber Done Raw
Strip a Dyna back to what actually matters and this is what's left standing. The 1449 cc air-cooled 45° V-twin is rubber-mounted in the frame, good for 67 hp and 85 lb-ft, and it runs through a six-speed gearbox. Everything else is subtraction: solo seat, mini ape-hangers, a Fat Bob tank, no fairing, no screen, no clutter. That is the entire design brief, and it was followed. In a class where stance and metal do the talking, this generation scores a flat 10 for chopper style, and it earns that score standing still in a parking lot.
It rides more civilly than it looks. The 25.8 in (655 mm) seat and 668 lb (303 kg) of wet weight carried low make it easy to place at walking pace, and it holds a line at highway speed without wandering. It suits the rider who wants presence and ritual over a spec sheet, and who treats the aftermarket as part of the plan rather than an afterthought. The honest caveat is range and reach: 4.7 gal at 36 mpg, a solo seat, no luggage, and no electronic safety net. Read the maintenance history below before you sign anything.

Chassis
I've been collecting notes on this one the slow way, over years: riders talking at rallies, owners catching me after a demo ride, and a steady trickle of mail from people weighing one up. What comes back barely shifts. The warmth is all about how it runs; the reservations are all about how long anyone wants to stay on it.
The engine carries the praise. Owners keep coming back to its low-rev punch and unhurried delivery, and they say it stays entertaining without asking them to go fast. Almost as many describe a chassis that never fights them: balanced, willing through a set of bends, settled when pushed. The six-speed earns steady credit for clean shifts and a calmer cruise, and the satin finish and bare hardware hold up to the looks they pull.
Complaints cluster around endurance. The buzz reaching the grips and footpegs is the first thing named, and it's why plenty of riders keep slab miles short. The brake is next: one disc up front, sufficient and nothing more, with owners wishing for a second when they carry a passenger or press on. The reach to the bars takes the rest of the blame for fatigue.
Transmission safety recall (false neutral indication)
Certain 2006 Dyna models built between June and October 2005 were recalled (NHTSA 05V-537) due to a transmission defect that could cause a false neutral indication, potentially allowing the motorcycle to roll while in gear. Dealers repaired the transmission under warranty.
Inner primary bearing failure
Premature wear of the inner primary bearing is a well-documented issue on 2006 Dyna models, often occurring around 15,000–20,000 miles. Symptoms include a whining noise from the primary case. Harley initially offered free replacement every 15,000 miles but later rescinded the policy.
Stator failure
The charging system stator is prone to early failure, often around 15,000 miles, leaving the rider stranded. Replacement of stator and voltage regulator is typically required.
8-degree fuel injector rough idle
Early-production 2006 models used 8-degree fuel injectors that caused rough idle and hesitation when pulling away. Harley later offered a free upgrade to 25-degree injectors to resolve the issue.
Front end clunking noise
Some owners report a pronounced clunk from the front end during compression or steering, possibly due to loose steering head bearings or fork internals. Not all dealers could identify or fix the root cause consistently.

Forget spec-sheet bragging. Here's who the Dyna Street Bob FXDB is actually built for.
This is your bike and your crowd. It looks right parked in a row of thousands, sounds right rolling in, and the solo seat keeps it honest about being one rider's machine.
Made for Florida State Road A1A · Black Hills · Main Street, Daytona Beach
Small towns and old highways suit it well. Plan around 4.7 gal at 36 mpg and pack light, because there's no luggage and no passenger seat, and the days will still be good ones.
Made for Park Loop Road · Handbuilt Motorcycle Show · Blue Ridge Parkway
Be honest with yourself here. No wind protection, no cruise control, no luggage and a solo seat all work against the long western days. It can cover the miles, it just won't make them easy.
Made for Beartooth Highway · Blue Ridge Parkway · Going-to-the-Sun Road
If this one isn't quite the fit, these are the bikes worth riding back-to-back against it.
