What makes each one tick

S 1000 XR

Out of the midrange, the S 1000 XR's inline-four pulls clean, then howls all the way to redline with a growl that's hard to tune out. Broken pavement finds the taut side of the semi-active suspension, where a sharp bump thumps up into the seat even in the softer modes. There's huge stopping power at the front, with excellent feel through the lever. The lever's bite keeps building.

Nils rode the S 1000 XR in 2020, and in Andalusia in 2021 (NastyNils Testride).

GSX-S 1000 GX

Behind the GSX-S 1000 GX's wide fairing, there's a proper wall against the weather, and long highway stretches go by in comfort. On corner entry the stock Dunlops put stability first, and the front won't hold its arc mid-corner without steady pressure on the bars. It understeers noticeably on them. The four spins up in one clean line.

Nils rode the GSX-S 1000 GX in Austria in 2024, and in Croatia/Dalmatia in 2025 (NastyNils Testride).
