What makes each one tick

2006 Dyna Street Bob FXDB

Down low, the Street Bob's Twin Cam 88 thumps out its torque, and legal speeds are where it's happiest. On long highway runs, there's buzz in the bars and pegs. Through the bends of Iron Mountain Road, the chassis carries its heft lightly and won't let a mid-corner bump unsettle it. It keeps carving to the exit.

2007 Dyna Street Bob FXDB

The Street Bob's Twin Cam 96 pulls on a fat torque curve, and it doesn't need wringing out to stay relaxed. It's easy to climb aboard, with the solo seat just 25.8 in (655 mm) up. There's a hard shove behind every throttle roll-on. The exhaust's deep rumble answers it.

Known problems to check before you buy

2006 Dyna Street Bob FXDB

  • Transmission safety recall (false neutral indication) Recall 05V537000 Certain 2006 Dyna models built between June and October 2005 were recalled (NHTSA 05V-537) due to a transmission defect that could cause a false neutral indication, potentially allowing the motorcycle to roll while in gear. Dealers repaired the transmission under warranty.
  • Inner primary bearing failure Premature wear of the inner primary bearing is a well-documented issue on 2006 Dyna models, often occurring around 15,000–20,000 miles. Symptoms include a whining noise from the primary case. Harley initially offered free replacement every 15,000 miles but later rescinded the policy.
  • Stator failure The charging system stator is prone to early failure, often around 15,000 miles, leaving the rider stranded. Replacement of stator and voltage regulator is typically required.
  • 8-degree fuel injector rough idle Early-production models used narrow-angle fuel injectors that caused rough idle and hesitation when pulling away.

  • Recall: 2008 California units — exhaust heat shield not installed Recall 07V535000 NHTSA campaign 07V535000 affected certain 2008-model-year units built and shipped to California, on which the catalytic muffler’s protective heat shield was not installed at the factory. Without the shield, contact with the hot muffler could cause burns, and contact while riding could lead to loss of control. Dealers installed the missing shield at no charge. This recall did not affect 2007 bikes.
  • Steering Stem Clunk Some owners report a noticeable clunk from the steering stem when the front wheel encounters a sharp bump.
