Ducati Hypermotard 950 RVE 2020–2023: Specs & Facts

The Machine's Character

The RVE is the Hypermotard 950 in its loudest visual register, wearing the graffiti-inspired livery pulled straight off the concept bike and sitting between the base 950 and the SP. Underneath it is the 937 cc Testastretta 11° V-twin, 114 hp at 9,000 rpm and 71 lb-ft at 7,250 rpm, carried in a slim trellis chassis with a narrow subframe and 441 lb wet on the scales. The rider aids do real work here rather than decoration: cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control, ride modes, plus an up and down quickshifter with a slipper clutch behind it.

It rides like a supermoto that grew up without ever getting sensible. Wide bars, tall stance, a machine you steer with your hips and throw between direction changes on a back road. The generous lean clearance means you run out of nerve long before the bike runs out of angle. This is for the rider whose best day is 150 miles of tight pavement, not a slog down the interstate. The caveats are plain ones. A 34.3 in seat is tall, the 3.8 gal tank keeps days short, and with no cruise control and no factory luggage, distance work simply is not what this thing was drawn for.

Known issues

Stalling due to fuel tank liner degradation

fuel system occasional

Some owners report that the fuel tank liner material dissolves, leaving deposits on throttle bodies and causing unstable idle or stalling when the throttle is closed. The fix often requires throttle body cleaning and, in severe cases, fuel tank replacement.
Negative battery terminal may break causing power loss

electrics rare Recall

A recall was issued for certain 2019-2020 Hypermotard 950 and 950 SP models (including early RVE builds) because the negative battery terminal can break, leading to sudden engine stalling. Dealers inspect and reroute the cable and may install insulation pads.

If this one isn't quite the fit, these are the bikes worth riding back-to-back against it.

Any price note compares both bikes at the same age — the youngest age both have on the used market — against this Ducati Hypermotard 950 RVE. “cheaper/pricier” is what that bike costs second-hand, not how worn it is.
