Classic 650 (MY2025)

The Unhurried Heritage Roadster

The Machine's Character

The Classic 650 takes Royal Enfield's most recognizable post-war shape and puts a real motorcycle underneath it. Sweeping fenders, a teardrop tank, a 648 cc air and oil-cooled parallel twin good for 47 hp and 39 lb-ft, and a shape arranged so your eye never snags on anything that looks like a compromise. The modern hardware is present, it just stays quiet about itself: ABS, an LED headlight, smartphone connectivity with navigation, a USB port, a center stand. In a class where the design has to survive three long glances, this one does.

On the road it asks you to slow down and agree with it. At 536 lb wet, the Classic 650 settles onto sweeping backroads and stays put rather than darting between bends, and the 31.5 in seat with neutral control placement keeps it usable every day. Running costs stay low, which matters on a bike you plan to keep for years. The honest caveat: this is unhurried transport with a rider-aid list that stops at ABS. If you want cruise control, traction control, or a machine that rewards pushing hard, this is not it.

An elevated view of a deep autumn canyon, likely Big Cottonwood Canyon, Utah. Steep rocky cliff faces and forested mountain ridges frame a narrow valley where a winding two-lane road passes below. Deciduous trees display full autumn color — gold, orange, and amber — interspersed with green conifers on the steep slopes. A single dark vehicle is visible far below on the road. Snow-dusted mountain peaks rise in the background under a partly cloudy sky.

Known issues

  • awkward kickstand tab location

    chassis common

The tab used to push the kickstand down is positioned directly beneath the footpeg, making it difficult to locate with the foot and awkward to deploy.

Alternatives to the Royal Enfield Classic 650

If this one isn't quite the fit, these are the bikes worth riding back-to-back against it.

Any price note compares both bikes at the same age — the youngest age both have on the used market — against this Royal Enfield Classic 650. “cheaper/pricier” is what that bike costs second-hand, not how worn it is.
