FC 450 (MY2023)

The Premier-Class Precision Tool

The Machine's Character

The FC 450 is the flagship four-stroke of Husqvarna's dirt range, and it is built for one job: winning premier-class motos. The 450 cc single makes 63 hp. High compression gives it a sharp, immediate hit that drives hard out of deep ruts and flat corners. It sits in a steel double-cradle frame tuned for straight-line stability and predictable absorption rather than outright stiffness, with a fully adjustable WP XACT upside-down fork and a matching shock. Traction control, ride modes, launch control and an up-only quickshifter all come standard. This is Husqvarna done right: clean styling on a machine that proves itself the moment the gate drops.

On the track it rewards smooth, precise throttle work more than brute force, and the electronics give you real tools to manage the power when the dirt turns slick. It changes direction easily and the chassis takes a beating. That makes it a bike for serious racers and committed practice-track riders who will actually use all that adjustability. The honest caveat is maintenance. The needle bearings in the shock linkage can walk out and bind, and the spokes loosen even with the updated nipples. Buy it if you keep a wrench close and check the bike before every ride. Stay on top of that and it keeps its edge.

Known issues

  • Shock linkage needle bearings walking out and binding

    suspension occasional

Needle bearings in the shock linkage migrate out of position, causing the linkage to bind up.

  • Loose wheel spokes

    chassis occasional

The wheel spokes loosen during use despite updated spoke nipples intended to keep them secure.

  • Difficulty finding neutral on starting line

    drivetrain occasional

Shifting the transmission into neutral is difficult when lined up on the starting line.

  • Front seat bolt risk of seizing if over-tightened

    bodywork rare

The front-mount seat bolt can suffer damage or failure if it is tightened excessively.

  • Right side panel exposes shock compression clickers to rider leg contact

    bodywork common

The right side panel stops short of the rear shock, leaving the compression adjustment knobs exposed to contact with the rider leg.

Alternatives to the Husqvarna FC 450

If this one isn't quite the fit, these are the bikes worth riding back-to-back against it.

Any price note compares both bikes at the same age — the youngest age both have on the used market — against this Husqvarna FC 450. “cheaper/pricier” is what that bike costs second-hand, not how worn it is.
