Nightster (MY2025)

3.5 / 5 NastyNils Rating · against its class

Sportster Soul, Liquid-Cooled

The Machine's Character

The Nightster is Harley's stripped-down take on a modern chopper, and it earns the look honestly. A liquid-cooled 975 cc 60-degree Revolution Max V-twin hangs in a steel trellis frame, making 89 hp and 72 lb-ft, and it likes to rev more than the silhouette suggests. The proportions are old-school: a 27.1 in (688 mm) seat, a 19-inch front and a fat 16-inch rear, all finished in black. Underneath sits a real rider-aid package with ABS, traction control and ride modes, plus USB charging. The build quality holds up to a close look, and in this class that matters.

At 483 lb (219 kg) wet, with the mass carried low, it is approachable for newer riders and settles down nicely at highway speed, which you don't get from every short chopper. It is also close to a perfect blank canvas, because few bikes in this class take bars, pipes and seats this easily. The honest caveat is range and reach. The 3.1 gal (11.7 L) tank means frequent stops, the fork has no adjustment, and there is no cruise control or luggage from the factory. The known weak spot is electrical: intermittent no-starts and brief throttle cut-outs that clear after a restart. Buy it for city nights and back roads, not for crossing the country.

A long, straight paved road stretches toward the horizon through agricultural fields in Vermont. Power lines and a mailbox are visible along the roadside. Lush green vegetation, cumulus clouds, good daylight conditions. The landscape is flat to gently rolling. Asphalt pavement appears to be in good condition. Rural American setting.

Known issues

  • Intermittent starting and throttle issues

    electrics occasional

Some owners report that the motorcycle fails to start without pulling the main fuse, and others experience momentary throttle cut-outs that clear after restarting. These electrical gremlins may be related to the new CAN-bus architecture.

The 'Should I Buy It?' Score

Forget spec-sheet bragging. Here's who the Nightster is actually built for.

Aerial view of a winding asphalt road cutting through volcanic terrain on La Gomera, Canary Islands. The road curves through sparse green vegetation with rocky volcanic peaks visible in the background and a settled valley to the left. Clear lane markings, dry climate, partly cloudy sky.

Best cruiser for Sturgis?

Roll into Sturgis or Daytona on this and it looks the part, a genuine Harley with real chopper attitude. Just plan the ride there in short hops, because the tank is small.

Best retro motorcycle for road trips?

Small towns, historic routes and an easy rhythm suit it well. The retro look is right and it's easy to live with. Keep day stages modest and strap on a tail bag.

Best touring motorcycle for long distance?

Straight answer: this isn't your bike for Beartooth with full luggage. It has a small tank and comes with no cruise control and no luggage. Enjoy it as a weekend toy and keep a proper tourer for the big trips.
