The 2010 Hypermotard 1100 has the edge if…

Racetrack use

A touch ahead: 2010 Hypermotard 1100

For track days, the 2010 Hypermotard 1100 comes out a touch ahead. Your setup and tires matter just as much.

Daily commuting & city riding

Inches ahead: 2010 Hypermotard 1100

On the way to work, the 2010 Hypermotard 1100 asks a little less of you. Most of that is a smaller footprint. Close enough that the test ride should settle it.

What makes each one tick

2010 Hypermotard 1100

Low in the revs, the 2010 Hypermotard 1100's Evoluzione twin already shoves hard, and the front wheel's in the air whenever you ask for it. On broken pavement, the firm suspension won't swallow a pothole and sends the jolt straight up into the seat. Smooth asphalt changes things, since the bike drops into tight turns like a dirt bike and doesn't get nervous through fast changes of direction. The wide bars snap it over.

2007 Hypermotard 1100

There's no lag between the throttle and the 2007 Hypermotard 1100's Desmodue twin, which pulls hard the moment you twist it. On Angeles Crest Highway you're perched over the front behind wide motocross bars, and the stiff frame swaps direction like a race replica. A hard grab of the brake lever lets the rear step out as you back it into a bend. The exhaust's throaty bark doesn't let up.

Nothing splits them on twisty roads and running costs. Ride both back to back and the decision usually makes itself.
