Bonneville T120 (MY2021)

The Bonneville T120 is the big-block classic standard, and this generation plays that role with real conviction. At its heart sits a 1200 cc liquid-cooled parallel twin tuned for pull, not revs: 77 lb-ft arrives at just 3,500 rpm, with 79 hp at 6,550 rpm. On the spec sheet that looks modest. On the road it means the engine does its work low and unhurried. Behind the heritage lines you get a genuinely modern bike: ride-by-wire throttle maps, ride modes, traction control, ABS, cruise control and a slipper clutch. None of it clutters the traditional look, and that is exactly what a retro has to get right.

This is a bike for sweeping back roads and relaxed highway miles, not frantic canyon work. At 520 lb (236 kg) wet it feels substantial off the side stand, but a 31.1 in (790 mm) seat and upright ergonomics keep it manageable for most riders. The steel-tube chassis, 18-inch front wheel and long 57.1 in wheelbase give it a calm, planted temperament. The honest caveat is care. Bare and polished metal will corrode if you park it wet or ride it through road salt, and the black engine paint can peel along the casing joins. If you fit an aftermarket exhaust or change the intake, budget for a remap, because without one it runs rough and the throttle turns snatchy.
